Bottled Water

There are many trains of thought that have different views on bottled water, from those who oppose it and feel that it is no different to tap water, to those who support it and point out that it is a healthier alternative to soft drinks that you can buy from vending machines, shops and restaurants. They also refer to the low costs of producing bottled water, with the majority spent on the bottle itself.

Bottled water is drinking water that is sold in bottles, usually collected in specific ways. Spring water is groundwater that is collected for bottling from wells, it is then treated before being sold onto the consumer. Mineral water is also groundwater, but instead of using a well to retrieve it, it has already made its way out of the ground and flowed over rocks, it is treated by removing iron compounds amongst others before being bottled. Both of these forms of bottled water have strict regulations governing them and dictating how it is treated and disinfected – this is due do safety and labelling issues (for example disinfecting something that is labelled as ‘natural’ mineral water).

Bottled water is undoubtedly popular, and will continue to be so for some time. It adds to a range of choice available concerning what we drink and how we go about obtaining it.
